Seventeen students are currently studying abroad in Guangzhou through a summer program organized by the Confucius Institute at IUPUI, and President McRobbie greeted them aboard a specially arranged boat tour of the Pearl River on Friday evening. The students, some from IUPUI and some from Butler University, are participating in the program for Chinese language and culture.

When such opportunities arise, McRobbie enjoys meeting with students who are studying abroad. On this particular trip, he also had the chance to greet new students and their parents at receptions in Seoul, Korea, and Beijing, China. In both cities, current IU students spoke about their experiences at IU and shared some advice with the new students about what to expect during an introductory session. Presenters for the session included Vice President David Zaret, who gave brief remarks about IU’s global engagement, and First Lady Laurie Burns McRobbie, who spoke about the various aspects of the student experience at IU. The students and parents in attendance also had an opportunity to speak with alumni at a reception that followed.
