Greetings from Mumbai
Hello, all!
President McRobbie, his wife Laurie, and the rest of the IU contingent have arrived in Mumbai for the start of our 11-day trip across India to forge new academic partnerships with some of India’s best universities, meet with business and political leaders and renew ties with IU alumni.
Our journey will take us to Mumbai, Bangalore, New Delhi and Hyderabad (first trivia question of the trip: Did you know that Hyderabad is a sister city to Indianapolis?).
It’s a packed agenda filled with great opportunities to share the IU story on an international stage and strengthen ties among IU, Indiana and India. And, I’ll be here every step of the way to share the experience with all of you who care so much about our great university.
For now, though, the first order is a little shut-eye. It’s 1 a.m. Saturday here (India is 9.5 hours ahead of Bloomington) and we have big first day tomorrow with a visit to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, a meeting with IU alum (master’s and doctorate) Anand Desphande, who runs a 5,000-person software firm in India and a reception with our flagship alumni group, based in Mumbai (more trivia: IU has approximately 400 alumni living in India).
More soon,
Mark
